When youre in a foreign country, theres nothing quite like local knowledge to help you find the perfect place to dine out. Im often asked to impart my wisdom while taking passengers on their ski transfers. Geneva has some wonderful restaurants and there are a few that I make sure I always mention. After all whats the point in eating out in chain restaurants and dodging gourmet nightmares, when you could take a locals advice and be guaranteed a great meal.
Les Recyclables
While on my ski transfers Geneva, a customer recently confided in me that [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] as soon as I dropped her off shed like nothing better than to curl up in front of her chalets roaring log fire with a good book, but she was so hungry that she just had to eat first. I knew instantly the exact place that she was after and convinced her to let me drop her off at this perfect little restaurant. At first she was a little reluctant, but I told her that Les Recyclables was exactly what she needed. This homely restaurant is situated in a second hand bookshop and its one of the most relaxing places in the city to go for dinner. The menu changes every day, based on whats in season, and customers can choose from three dishes, all made with fresh, organic ingredients from local or [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] fair [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] trade producers. The food is fantastic, but then so are the cultural events that the restaurant hosts. On any [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] night of the week you can expect to see concerts, debates or lectures taking place in [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] the restaurant. Or you can just do as the lady on my ski transfers to Geneva did and sit quietly at her cosy table with a good read.
LAiglon
I never know whether or not I should recommend LAiglon [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] to customers I first meet on their ski transfers to Geneva; the reason for that is because when you go to LAiglon you really never know what to expect. One day, youll arrive [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] and the restaurant will be quite chilled out and mellow, and the next evening there will be loud electronic music. This is why I recommend that the uninitiated not visit at night time; however if you go for lunch you can get a three course meal for less than £11.00 and the food is pretty fantastic. Youll find that the restaurant itself is quite futuristic looking with its lilac walls, turquoise crystals and [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] disco balls but its definitely [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] a break from the norm.
Cafe Universal
Cafe Universal is my favourite restaurant in the whole of Geneva. Its been around since 1903, and serves up the best meat in the city. Its a cross between a classical cafe and an American brassiere with very swish chandeliers hanging from the ceilings. Theres even an old phone booth in [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Cafe Universal, which I love! The restaurant has an extensive wine list and the staff is extremely knowledgeable and happy to make recommendations. But, while the food is [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] delicious, its not very vegetarian friendly! I hope you dont mind if I recommend the steak cooked medium rare [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] with morel sauce and served with French fries my stomachs rumbling just thinking about it!
