Wing Tsun, or "Chinese Dancing" is often a soft style with a powerful philosophical bent to it. The name originally came from the ideograms for "Ever Spring", and it is proper. I was finding tired of walking with bruises and pulled muscles, and necessary to switch to a softer style although I was recovering. I like [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Kung Fu styles, so understanding Wing Tsun was like falling off a log. Only without as much falling, or as a lot of punches to the sternum. Although the joint locks did remind me I was doing a real martial art. (1 piece of advice - anyone who says "Hey, let me show you a joint [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] lock!" can be [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] a sadist. Just say "no". Really.) In some approaches, Wing Tsun is like the early forms exercises you do [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] for Kung Fu, only carried to their logical extreme, as opposed to employed as the fundamentals of a challenging style.
In specific, the footwork demands that you settle in a low stance, but not 1 that's so low that your mobility gets hampered. Now, I know, everyone who does martial arts has heard about this stance, or that stance. And unless you're working in [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] front of a mirror, you'll do the sloppiest stance you can get away with with out your sparring partner kicking you a brand new 1. What I found interesting about Wing Tsun is that the form [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] drills (San Sik is what they're called) Seriously emphasize fluid motions. Let me tell you, doing it ideal - you are going to sweat. And the muscles inside your quads and hams are going to burn...but my word, is the end result worth it. Those forms become second nature, like they're learned by your knees and hips, and you just do them - as soon as the discomfort has gone away.
What drew me to Wing Tsung, aside from the sprained wrist on my primary punching hand, was the fluid footwork that its practitioners had. Nicely, OK. It was the fluid footwork that I saw in Jet Li's movies, although waiting for the cast to come off. Even so, just from watching the movies, I [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] could see immediate uses for Wing Tsun footwork in my repertoire of strategies as soon as my wrist healed. Wing Tsun footwork focuses on balance - more so than having a powerful kicking style, which can leave you pretty exposed attempting for a circle kick.
Not surprisingly, everybody will likely be talking about your new dance steps, but Wing Tsun footwork pays [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] for itself nicely - considering that going into it, I've been a lot more conscious of how my bent knees boost my reach with punches and elbow strikes, and it's been a whole lot harder to throw me to the mat in Jiu Jitsu. The parts I've had to compensate for from the footwork I've learned have been in mobility. It's from time to [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] time possible to "plant" too challenging - which makes it tempting to break stance to give pursuit, particularly when you are flowing from a down block [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] and trying to transition [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] into a kick - at that point, the Wing Tsun footwork has to type of "skip a beat" [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] even though you move back to a harder Kung Fu kick.
Either way, I'm glad I took the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] time [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] to learn this. It is given me a great base to function from, along with a few additional tricks to throw into sparring matches. Especially fun is when someone makes enjoyable of the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] dance actions and then comes up to me and says "How'd you do that, Yoshi?"
